Leaky Gut Syndrome Natural Health Advice for Healing Leaky Gut Syndrome
  • Leaky Gut Causes – Is This Causing Yours?

In this article we’ll explore all of the different leaky gut causes as well as provide you with specific examples.

But first, let’s get one thing straight. There is no one single cause. Instead it is actually the accumulation of stress from sources. Together these various sources place enough stress on the digestive tract for intestinal permeability to develop.

This happens because these leaky gut causes create continuous inflammation which literally burns the intestinal lining and damages the digestive tract. Over time this damage breaks down the intestinal lining which wipes out the majority of your immune system. As a result you are vulnerable to develop many Leaky Gut Syndrome symptoms.

    Leaky Gut Causes

    Dietary Sources
    Source
    Example
    Trans-Fats
Hydrogenated Oils typically used in fast food, margarines, baked goods with long shelf lives.
    White Flour
Refined White Flour typically used in baked goods (cookies, cakes, etc), pastas, breads, pastries, crackers, and in most processed foods.
    Pasteurized Milk
Pasteurized Milk typically found in all grocery stores and all dairy products (milk, cheeses, yogurts, cottage cheeses, creamers, etc).
    Processed Foods
Boxed and Packaged Foods typically found in all grocery stores which lack fiber and nutrients and are typically high in processed carbohydrates, sugars, and salts.
    Processed Sugar
Refined White Sugar typically used in most processed foods with added sugar.
    Processed Salt
Refined White Table Salt typically used at the dinner table and in most processed foods with added salt/sodium.
    Alcohol
All types of Beer, Wine, and Liquor. Alcohol contains substances that are toxic to your cells.

Poor dietary choices are one the biggest leaky gut causes. One of the best things you can do to relieve your symptoms is to adopt a proper diet and remove the above foods. This is extremely important and an integral part of the Leaky Gut Syndrome treatment protocol.

    Environmental Toxins
    Source
    Example
    Household Chemicals
    Toxic home cleaning products.
    Farming Chemicals
Pesticides and Fungicides used in conventional farming.
    Food Chemicals
Food Additives and Preservatives found in most of our food supply.
    Toxic Pathogen Byproducts
Parasites, Bacteria, and Yeast/Fungi release toxic byproducts within the digestive tract.

Few people even stop to consider synthetic chemicals as being one of the major causes of leaky gut. But unfortunately, these chemicals are everywhere. You can work on reducing environmental toxic exposure by switching to organic foods and all natural non-toxic household cleaners if you haven’t done so already.

    Chronic Stress
    Source
    Example
    Physical
Chronic Physical Pain such as neck and back pain. Also Chronically Overworking the body from labor intensive job or excessive exercise in the gym without adequate recover.
    Mental
Chronic Mental Stress such as losing a job or financial trouble.
    Emotional
Chronic Emotional Stress such as a failing relationship or the death of a loved one.

You can work on reducing chronic stress by adopting more of an acceptance attitude toward life instead of a constant battle. You can also work on improving posture through proper exercise. Most doctors and practitioners rarely address this but it is an important part of any holistic approach to healing the gut.

It’s important to note here also that this is one of the most commonly overlooked leaky gut causes because we live in such a high stress society and rarely stop to consider the effects that it’s having on our bodies.

    Dysbiosis
    Source
    Example
    Parasites
Cryptosporidium, Giardia, E. Histolytica, Hookworms, Flatworms, Roundworm, Protozoa
    Bacteria
    H. Pylori, C. Difficile, Klebsiella
    Yeast/Fungi
    Candida overgrowth

You can work on correcting dysbiosis by implementing a proper diet that does not include sugar or processed foods. This will help to starve the harmful pathogens out of your body.

    Medications
    Source
    Example
    Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
Pain Relievers such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, and prescription drugs such as Celebrex.
    Birth Control Pills
    Yaz, Loestrin, OrthoTri-Cyclen, etc
    Steroidal Drugs
    Prednisone, Hydrocortisone, Corticosteroids, etc.
    Antibiotics

This is often the most overlooked of the causes of leaky gut. You can work on reducing the number and amount of unnecessary medications that you take. There are many natural products and methods that provide the same results without the negative side effects.
